An unpublished rendering of Hektor of Troy
Lot 789
TROAS. Ilium. Commodus, 177-192. Diassarion (Bronze, 28 mm, 10.12 g, 7 h), circa 180-182. ΑY ΚΑΙ Μ ΑYΡΗ ΚΟΜΜΟΔΟϹ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Commodus to right, seen from behind. Rev. ЄΚΤΩΡ ΙΛΙЄΩΝ Hektor, helmeted and in military attire, advancing to right, brandishing uncertain weapon in his right hand and holding shield in his left. Bellinger -. RPC IV.2 -, cf. 11284 (Hektor advancing left and brandishing stone). Apparently unpublished and unique, a very interesting issue. About very fine.

It is unclear what weapon Hektor is brandishing in his right hand: it is certainly not a stone, as noted on RPC IV.2 online 11284, but it also appears to be too short and thick for a spear
